This watercolor looks back at St Andrew's Cathedral, circa 1900, not with nostalgia's warmth but with memory's quiet hush. Working from an archival greyscale photograph, I have rendered the scene in what I call a colored greyscale, a restrained palette where soft umbers, muted earth tones, and cool greys hold careful balance. The cathedral rises in quiet dignity, its Gothic windows, stone buttresses, and spires traced with delicate, confident brushwork, while the warmer clock tower behind it offers the one note of colour breaking through the stillness. There is no forced drama here. Small horse-drawn carriages move unhurried along the road below, a reminder that life once kept a different pace. This piece honours the endurance of place, rendered not in vibrant life but in the soft language of recollection.
