Parliament on the Inner Harbour

This watercolor and ink painting shows the British Columbia Parliament Buildings in Victoria, Canada, built between 1893 and 1898 to a design by architect Francis Rattenbury. Golden stone facades rise beneath a copper-toned central dome and smaller domed turrets, framed by green trees, flagpoles and faint snow-capped mountains. A floating boathouse and two rowboats rest on the calm teal harbour. While my work as UmairArts focuses on Australian heritage buildings, this piece carries the same minimalist approach overseas, using a limited palette of teal, green and golden ochre.
