This watercolor settles into Clarence Corner, Woolloongabba, Queensland, around 1906, under a sky burning orange at dusk. Awnings in warm amber run down both sides of the street, past The Clarence Drapers and the Clarence Hotel, sheltering the footpath below. A horse-drawn carriage waits in the foreground while a small cable tram rolls down the centre of the road, tracks catching the last light. Figures move quietly along the street, unhurried, as the road narrows toward a soft, hazy vanishing point in the distance. The painting holds onto a Queensland corner that has long since changed, rendered in the warm, fading colour of a day's end.
